Jeep Patriot

Dennis D James

This is a beautiful compact SUV type vehicle. It was originally introduced to all in the year 2007. The Jeep Patriot debuted its advertising in the year of 2006 when at the New York Auto Show. The great thing about this jeep is the fact that it is such a wonderful vehicle, it looks good and it is the cheapest type of SUV available in North America. This is strange as it is such an excellent car, but Jeep is just showing how they cater for everybodys needs and not just the people who have the extra cash. The Jeep Patriot falls between the other two Jeeps, Liberty and Compass.

Sometimes the Compass and the Jeep Patriot are thought to be the same as they are equally based on the GS platform. The way to tell the difference with all these vehicles is by looking at their marketing and styling; the Jeep Patriot is a four door wagon which is rather alike to the Cherokee, which was put to an end in the U.S. the Jeep Compass is more of a sporty kind of vehicle, but it also has a lot more ability when it comes to situations that involve bad weather and rough roads. The Dodge Caliber vehicle, which was also based, like the others, on the GS platform, is said to be of a direct contestant to the Toyota Matrix and that Pontiac Vibe. It is also much loved for being the little hatchback wagon.

The Jeep Patriot is not just a pretty engine and gorgeous body, this beauty is also capable on many off-road challenges that include ground clearance, water fording, traction, articulation and maneuverability. In this category, the Freedom Drive II is one of the Jeeps with the most off-road capabilities.

This vehicle would suit a driver that is determined, anxious, wild and fun. Whether its a male or female, the Jeep Patriot is available in the following colors; Stone White Clearcoat, Marine Blue Pearlcoat, Jeep Green Metallic Clearcoat, Bright Silver Metallic Clearcoat, Black Clearcoat, Inferno Red Crystal Clearcoat, Light Khaki Metallic Clearcoat and Steel Blue Metallic Clearcoat. So there are many colors for you to choose from and you are guaranteed to find the one that suits you just wonderfully!

Enjoy a fun bundu-bashing weekend with your family in the Jeep Patriot. It cant perform the full blown off-road capabilities like some of the other Jeeps can, but this is an ideal family car. Perfect to go camping, fishing, day tripping, mountain climbing, hiking and you can even fasten your bicycles to the back of it for when you want to go mountain bike riding. There is so much one can do with a Jeep Patriot, and the fun is just beginning!

Now that you think you are going to purchase one of the coolest cars ever, just remember about safety on the road. You can make a difference by sticking to the speed limit that is provided and wearing your seatbelt. That it, your jobs complete! Oh, and dont forget to have fun!

Iraqi, American forces raid insurgent training camp, killing 85

Iraqi, American forces raid insurgent training camp, killing 85
September 13th, 2017 by o78hZT

Thursday, March 24, 2005

Iraqi and American forces raided a training camp in a remote, rural region 160 kilometers north of Baghdad on Wednesday, killing 85 insurgents. Seven Iraqi commandos were killed in the raid and six were injured, according to the US military.

In addition to placing the insurgent death toll at 85, the Iraqi government also said that between 500 and 700 Iraqi commandos took part in the raid.

After encountering heavy fire from an estimated 100 insurgents as they approached the camp, the Iraqi commandos called in support from the American 42nd Infantry Division, which sent in ground troops and attack helicopters. The battle began at approximately 11a.m. local time (0800 UTC) and lasted seven hours.

The training camp, located in a remote region near Lake Tharthar, which is adjacent to the predominantly Sunni Anbar and Salahuddin provinces, is the largest guerilla training camp that has been discovered in the war so far, according to Iraqi officials.

The insurgents had planned to attack the city of Samarra, located 55 kilometers east of the lake, with a large number of car bombs, according to the Iraqi Interior Ministry.

Iraqi officials claimed that most of the insurgents came from Arab countries, though men from the Philippines were also among the deceased insurgents. They also claimed to have captured one Algerian.

“The Arab countries are sending fighters into Iraq because they want to destroy our democratic movement,” said General Rashid Flaiyeh, head of Iraqi police in Salahuddin Province, in an interview broadcast on state-run television network Al Iraqiya.

What Are Grace Periods?

September 10th, 2017 by o78hZT

By Peter Kenny

When you begin looking for the credit card that will fit you needs there are several things that you will want to look into. Included in this list are issues such as the annual percentage rate (APR), cash advance rates and fees, annual fees for using the card, and the grace period that the company offers its customers. Understanding the grace period of your card is important because it can save you a lot of money over the long run.

In simple terms, the grace period that you are allowed is the number of days you have in order to pay your bill in full without incurring a finance charge. An example of this might be if the card company states you have 25 days from the statement date to pay your previous balance in full by the due date.

The statement date will always be given on the bill, and that is the date that you need to use when calculating the grace period.

YouTube Preview Image

What this means is that if you pay your balance by this date you will not have to pay additional finance charges. It is, simply, the cut off date or the deadline, if you wish, for paying the balance without incurring any additional finance charges.

You should understand that the number of days that a company allows as its grace period can vary from one company to another. For this reason, you should check all solicitations for the correct number of days.

It is also important to understand that in many cases there is no grace period for cash advances or for balance transfers. When this is the case, the interest charges begin immediately and you will have to pay those charges regardless of how fast you pay off the balance of the cash advance. For the most part, grace periods only apply to new purchases that you make with the card, so be careful about cash advances and know beforehand what the charge will be should you use that benefit.

Another issue that you should be aware of is when you carry over any part of your balance from the previous month. In some cases, and this varies from company to company, you may not have a grace period for those new purchases that you make. What this means is that you may be charged interest when you make a new purchase and this may be in addition to the interest that is being charged to the balance that was not paid off.

In order to learn how your credit card company treats grace periods, you should read their policy which will be on your bill. It is usually located in an area that is called “method of computing balance of purchases”. Some of the terminology that is used in these sections can be somewhat confusing to many people. If you have any questions about how the charges are calculated or how the grace period works you can call and ask for guidance. It is much better to know than to not know. This way you can use the grace period to your advantage.

French workers use threats in compensation demand

French workers use threats in compensation demand
September 10th, 2017 by o78hZT

Friday, July 17, 2009 Following similar threats by workers at New Fabris and Nortel, workers at JLG in Tonneins, France, threatened to blow up several platform cranes. The JLG factory announced in April 2009 that it will fire 53 of its 163 workers by the end of 2009, while the remaining 110 jobs will not be secure over the next 2 years.

JLG Tonneins was acquired in 2006 with its parent JLG Industries, a maker of aerial work platforms, by the U.S.-based Oshkosh Corporation. Despite being hugely profitable in the past, production has been much reduced since 2008 with the contraction of the construction industry and lower demand for its products. Despite excellent past results the new American management demanded sweeping cuts at the company.

In the view of locals, “the company’s actions are a disgrace given the expensive perks, such as official cars, for its corporate fat cats, compared to the sacrifice, silence, and dignity demanded by the company of those it has made redundant.”

The management offered severance pay of 3,000 (US $4,200), however the workers demanded a severance package commensurate with “the wealth that their labor has generated.” Worker’s delegates requested a “supra-legal” payment of € 30,000, on Thursday 16 of July the management responded with a counter offer of € 16,000. On Thursday night the worker’s actions secured the € 30,000 settlement initially demanded.

Injunction fails to stop decision on waterfront stadium in New Zealand

Injunction fails to stop decision on waterfront stadium in New Zealand
September 10th, 2017 by o78hZT

Thursday, November 23, 2006

Today an injunction that was filed in the High Court yesterday to stop the Auckland City Council and Auckland Regional Council from telling the Government which stadium they prefer has failed. The decision is over a new stadium located on the waterfront of Auckland, New Zealand or an upgrade of the already existing, Eden Park, Auckland. The stadium is for the final of the Rugby World Cup 2011, which New Zealand is hosting.

The injunction was filed by a group of five Aucklanders who believe that the decision is being rushed. The injunction was filed in the name of a private citizen to represent a group of five Aucklanders. Rodney Hide, leader of the ACT party and Member of Parliament (MP) and MP for the Green party, Keith Locke, are helping the fight for the injunction as they believe the Aucklanders have a strong case.

Justice John Priestley said that the group did not need this injunction because they could fight the stadium decision in the future by different means. A second injunction has already been filed for two days, starting December 11.

Mayor of Auckland, Dick Hubbard, said: “The council’s advisors have informed that processes have been proper and appropriate.”

Rodney Harrison, Queens Counsel (QC), said: “The group that lodged the injunction were Auckland ratepayers, residents and concerned citizens but none of whom could be called high profile. I have no idea what those decisions might be. Exactly how the defendants (local government) react to central Government requests or pressure is a matter for them.”

ARC chairman, Mike Lee attacked his own counsel Brian Latimore for failing to follow instructions at today’s High Court injunction hearing. The instruction were “not to oppose any injunction, merely to assist the court by explaining what was going on and leave the argument to the judge and the other parties.”

Mr Lee said: “We were there as peacekeepers not combatants and it seems this guy has gone in and opened fire.”

Patrick McGuire, one of the five Aucklanders who had sought the injunction, said that Mr Hide had introduced all of them to each other after they each wrote a letter to him with their concerns. Mr McGuire said it requires “public input”.

Mr Hide said that he “had acted as a middle-man, arranging for the members of the group to meet with lawyers.” Mr Locke and Mr Hide are working together because they are concerned the legal processes of the decision over which stadium will be chosen and how the decision will be made. Mr Hide said he did not like the waterfront stadium, “I’m not a lawyer but the legal advice we have had is that the injunction has a high chance of succeeding.”

The two councils, Auckland City and Auckland Regional, have been consulting the affected groups to see which decision they should go with. The Auckland City Council is currently in a meeting discussing the stadium decision and the Regional Council will do it tomorrow.

If the waterfront stadium was chosen then the stadium will be located on Ports of Auckland land and they want a guarantee that their running of the ports will not be affected. Denis Carlisle, president of the local Maritime union, said: “The Ports of Auckland are asking for guarantees that they will not suffer any financial loss from the stadium project, and likewise the Maritime Union will be seeking compensation for our members for any loss of work. The issue was about safeguarding Port of Auckland’s role as a major working port.”

“[The Ports of Auckland] is one of the key gateways between New Zealand and the global economy.”

Doha round of trade talks suspended after negotiations fail

Doha round of trade talks suspended after negotiations fail
September 10th, 2017 by o78hZT

Tuesday, July 25, 2006

The director-general of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Pascal Lamy, suspended negotiations in the Doha round of trade talks on Monday, after a meeting of six “core” negotiators India, Brazil, the United States, European Union, Japan, and Australia in Geneva failed to make any headway in reconciling differences over agricultural trade liberalisation. The US wanted cuts in import tariffs for farm products, which were rejected by EU, Japan and India, who asked for cuts in agricultural subsidies.

Peter Mandelson, the EU trade commissioner, told the Financial Times: “If the US continues to demand dollar-for-dollar compensation in market access [cutting tariffs] for reducing domestic support, no one in the developing world will ever buy that and the EU will not either.” Brazil also identified the US stand on subsidies as the reason the talks failed.

Susan Schwab, the US trade representative, said that the other countries sought exemptions from tariff cuts for a wide range of goods and that such exemptions would defeat the object of the talks – to expand trade. “As we went through the layers of loopholes . . . we discovered that a couple of our trading partners were more interested in loopholes than market access,” she said.

The Indian Commerce and Industries Minister, Kamal Nath said that developing countries could not allow their subsistence farmers to lose their livelihood and food security to provide market access to agricultural products from developed countries.

Satirist Stephen Colbert runs for U.S. President

Satirist Stephen Colbert runs for U.S. President
September 7th, 2017 by o78hZT

Wednesday, October 17, 2007

The American satirist Stephen Colbert has announced that he will run for the Presidency of the United States. He made his announcement on his mock news show The Colbert Report.

However, Colbert said that he would only run in his home state of South Carolina as a favorite son. He also said that he would represent both major political parties: the Republicans and the Democrats. It is not known how far Colbert will go with his character during his electoral run.

Colbert has hosted The Colbert Report, a spin-off to another satirical television series, The Daily Show, since its creation in 2005. “I didn’t have a job back then. I wonder what it was like to have a job back then. I am sure I could ask a dentist or a surgeon. He would know.” On the show he plays a right-wing political pundit, based on real-life pundits such as Bill O’Reilly and Stone Phillips. Colbert has been credited with popularizing certain words such as “Truthiness”, meaning to believe something intuitively, without regard for actual facts, logic or evidence.

Filling in for New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd on Sunday, Colbert wrote: “I am not ready to announce yet — even though it’s clear that the voters are desperate for a white, male, middle-aged, Jesus-trumpeting alternative.”

Iran nuclear talks enter third day

Iran nuclear talks enter third day
September 7th, 2017 by o78hZT

Wednesday, October 21, 2009

Talks between Iran and three other countries continued on Wednesday in Vienna, Austria, as they try to work out a deal that will ease tensions over Iran’s controversial nuclear program. Diplomats from Iran, Russia, France, and the United States began the third day of talks at the headquarters of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Talks stalled on Tuesday, after Iran expressed resistance to aspects of the proposal, in which it would send most of its low-enriched — or below weapons- grade — uranium to Russia and France for further refinement, to be later used as reactor fuel.

The IAEA’s ambassador to Iran, Ali Asghar Soltanieh, described the ongoing consultations as being “constructive”.

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said that Iran is opposed to France’s involvement, accusing the country of failing to deliver nuclear supplies in the past. “There is Russia, America […] I believe these countries are enough,” Mottaki said. “France, based on its shortcomings to fulfil its obligations in the past, is not a trustworthy party to provide fuel for Iran.”

Mottaki also added that an agreement would not mean that Iran would suspend its enrichment activity. “Iran will continue its uranium enrichment. It is not linked to buying fuel from abroad. The meetings with world powers, and their behaviour, shows that Iran’s right to have peaceful nuclear technology has been accepted by them,” he said.

IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei said on Tuesday that progress was being made and that technical issues still needed to be analysed. He said an agreement was still within reach. “I believe we are making progress. It is maybe slower than I expected. But we are moving forward,” he said.

ElBaradei added that while “many technical issues” had to be considered, talks were still “moving forward”.

US National Security Council spokesman Mike Hammer said that US and Iranian delegations held separate discussions on the proposed uranium enrichment deal, under the auspices of the IAEA.

A diplomat familiar with the Vienna talks said the parties now are considering a compromise deal that would allow Russia to sub-contract enrichment work to France, thereby meeting Iran’s request to avoid direct dealings with the country. The enrichment deal would be intended to ease concerns that Iranian uranium enrichment activities are aimed at developing nuclear weapons.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Security Council recently imposed three sets of sanctions on Iran for its refusal to halt its enrichment activities.

Looted, possibly contaminated body parts transplanted into USA, Canadian patients

Looted, possibly contaminated body parts transplanted into USA, Canadian patients
September 7th, 2017 by o78hZT

Monday, March 20, 2006

Fears of contaminated bone and skin grafts are being felt by unsuspecting patients following the revelation that funeral homes may have been looting corpses.

Janet Evans of Marion Ohio was told by her surgeon, “The bone grafts you got might have been contaminated”. She reacted with shock, “I was flabbergasted because I didn’t even know what he was talking about. I didn’t know I got a bone graft until I got this call. I just thought they put in screws and rods.”

The body of Alistair Cooke, the former host of “Masterpiece Theatre,” was supposedly looted along with more than 1,000 others, according to two law enforcement officials close to the case. The tissue taken was typically skin, bone and tendon, which was then sold for use in procedures such as dental implants and hip replacements. According to authorities, millions of dollars were made by selling the body parts to companies for use in operations done at hospitals and clinics in the United States and Canada.

A New Jersey company, Biomedical Tissue Services, has reportedly been taking body parts from funeral homes across Brooklyn, New York. According to ABC News, they set up rooms like a “surgical suite.” After they took the bones, they replaced them with PVC pipe. This was purportedly done by stealth, without approval of the deceased person or the next of kin. 1,077 bodies were involved, say prosecuters.

Investagators say a former dentist, Michael Mastromarino, is behind the operation. Biomedical was considered one of the “hottest procurement companies in the country,” raking in close to $5 million. Eventually, people became worried: “Can the donors be trusted?” A tissue processing company called LifeCell answered no, and issued a recall on all their tissue.

Cooke’s daughter, Susan Cooke Kittredge, said, “To know his bones were sold was one thing, but to see him standing truncated before me is another entirely.” Now thousands of people around the country are receiving letters warning that they should be tested for infectious diseases like HIV or hepatitis. On February 23, the Brooklyn District Attorney indicted Mastromarino and three others. They are charged with 122 felony counts, including forgery and bodysnatching.
